Tomorrow night we are staying at the Lake Itasca State Park. That lakes outflow is the river's source. The corps of engineers (COE) has divided the river into upper and lower sections. The upper part is something like 1435 miles and it ends at Cairo Illinois where the Ohio river joins the Mississippi. The lower section ends at the gulf and it's around 950 miles long. When I make a post I will try to include my river mile position. Something like U 1215, or something. The Minnesota DNR and the COE have websites with river charts Available for your viewings pleasure. We will go to the headwaters tomorrow and have a look around
