Across Lake Winnie

U1233 When we got going the lake was like glass. We went counterclockwise staying 2 to 4 miles from shore. The wind picked up and things got hairy at around 11. Our chosen campsite was closed for some reason so we pressed on to the dam. The portage around the dam Sucked. We had to use all of my 100 feet of rope to pull the boats up a suicidal hill. What jenny won't do for love!  We are camped in a C.O.E. campground ($20) with water faucets and electricity. There are no more big lakes for Mrs. Sippy. Now wildlife. So far 4 beavers, 2 trumpeter swans, hundreds of Loons, the biggest turtle I've ever seen outside a zoo, some deer (whoops) and gazillions of ducks. We are never out of sight of a duck. The most remarkable thing we have seen are the Bald Eagles. We were flushing them out of the trees as we paddled by. I saw more eagles in 15 minutes today than I've seen my whole life. Even though Jennys older than me, she said the same thing. We've got all river tomorrow and no portages. We are 4 miles ahead of schedule so we might sleep in.

Frome there Dave continues alone, to reflect the river and it's lonesomeness. To reflex on life, the grandeous of the river and his life of being retired and lonesome on the river.
Three months he things it will take, what a great trip to make! To give it your all and take so many memories to comtimplate on his trip to the gulf.
