Sept 15 highlights

U697 I pulled into a park in Winona MN this morning and emptied my trash bag (it doesn't take much to make the highlights). It was cold this morning. I was warm in my sleeping bag but I had to get out of it. That was hard. I did 3 locks today. The novelty of paddling through locks has completely worn off. The last lock I did this afternoon was # 7. I only have 22 more (WOOPIE) all the numbers associated with this trip are huge. It's best not to think about it. At my normal stopping time 4-4:30, I found myself in La Cross. WI. I had told myself never to let that happen. People don't like you camping in their yard. I pressed on and turned off the main channel into a estuary sort of area. I'm pitching my tent when a tour boat cruises by full of eco tourists getting a lecture on the Mississippi ecology or something. I might have been the only wildlife they got a good look at. Oh, one more thing. I'm locking through lock # 7, just above La Cross and there's an observation deck full of people . I'm the only one in the lock so guess what they're observing? They took a bunch of pictures. I took out at that lock to fill my water bottles and saw myself in the mirror. I understand why they were taking pictures. Sun just went down and so did the temperature. More tomorrow.
