U 785 I didn't see too many people today. I was kind of out there on my own. One tow Capt Tooted his horn at me as he went past. I don't think he was pissed, it sounded like a friendly "howdy". I waved. I was able to get off the river a little after 3. There was a 70% chance of rain this afternoon. It's raining now. I'm in the tent, high & dry. Tomorrow is supposed to be good. I'm only 50 miles from Memphis. I'll do maybe 30-35 miles tomorrow and meet Jenny early afternoon on Fri. There is a possibility I could make it to N.O. on 30 Oct. Several things will need happen. Good current. Good motivation. Good weather. I'll need to average 45 mpd to make that date. I'm kinda ready to be finished. Today marks 2 months. Jenny & I started at Lake Itasca on Aug 12th. Unreal. It's raining hard now. I should mix another Bourbon and lemonade.
Memphis on the horizon

BBQUE-can't you taste it?
Guess you have waited for it.
How nice to see your Jenny
And enjoy your many
Memories of the trip with Jenny.
Dave you are paddling on and on
Are you yet reflecting as time goes on
About the challenges of this trip
Oh yes, I remember-its not the fun
It's what you do for life's song,
To tacks yourself-find yourself
And whats to come!
Heck-after this trip, what's left,
A trip to the Moon in a balloon?
Paddle on my brother, I know it's been lonely
for you, but Jenny seems to show up to keep
your mood better than blue! I leave on the 27th for Texas, guess you might still be paddling on, will try and keep in touch. Pat
A trip to the moon in a balloon...with Dave, anything is possible. Maybe the barge captains are keeping track of you like a friendly mosquito?..keep waving. Wishing you clear skies, current that pushes you forward, and an early arrival in Memphis...paddle on.
