October 5

U 127 I did a floating rest break this morning and I turned on my GPS to see how fast I would drift. It looks like the current is about 2.5. I can add 3.5 so I was around 6mph most of the day. That's not spectacular but it beats the locked current. I knew I would have some current this morning so I took the time to make a big breakfast and I got on the water at 8 instead of 7:30. I discovered one thing right away. Tow boats going upstream have to use high power setting and the water behind them is a mess for 20 minutes. Jenny and I are trying to figure out a date for our meet up in Memphis. I'm trying to see how many miles I can comfortably do with the new river flow rate. I think I was close to 38 today. We'll see how I do tomorrow. Weather could always set me back some. It's supposed to be in the 80s with clear skies for a few days. In spite of starting a little late and quitting a little early I'm still tired. I've still got to sit in my saddle and move the boat. Every stroke puts me closer. When they asked the guy why he was beating his head against the wall his reply was " because it feels so good when I stop ".
