I'll get to my lock 25 problems in a minute. It was super foggy this morning. I, of course, went anyway. The water was like glass and I couldn't see 50 feet. I was focused on my bow compus with an occasional glance at the GPS. I was getting vertigo. It was really weird. That went on for 90 minutes or so. A little later I come upon a massive dredging operation that appears to cross the entire river. Just at the last minute a hole opens up in this operation. Turns out the hole is not for me. I'm looking at a line of barges headed up stream. Crisis averted. Now lock 25. I get here after paddling 32 miles and I have to wait because it's occupied. Ok that's the way it goes. While I'm waiting guess who pulls up on my side of the lock. The dredging operation. It's going to take them 2 lock throughs to get them all through. I obviously got bumped to the rear. It's nearly 5 and I'm sitting on a big pile of rip rap watching the sun go down. I can't see any place to camp on this side and I've got no idea what's on the other side. To top it off I think the lock master is somewhat snotty. I'll be glad when all these locks are behind me. 3 more days.
I hope you don't have to sleep in your boat!! That doesn't sound comfy. Look on the brightside... at least your Internet is back. Locks don't sound like much fun. Good luck, we're thinking about you.
ReplyDeletesorry things are such a problem with the locks Dave, what a bummer, but only three to go, like Lindsay said your internet is back. I am sure you will find a place to spend the noc, maybe the lockmaster wants company and will let you camp out in his little house on the lock for the noc. Just kidding. Keep on paddling my brother, making great time it appears. Pat
ReplyDeleteLockmasters have all the power...interesting job.
ReplyDeleteSleep and start again tomorrow. What is planned for the last lock..at least a weary smile as it disappears in your rear view mirror....paddle on
Agree with Lindsay! Imagine doing all of this and no internet-ugghhhh! Hope you could rest last night! A couple more days and you will be flying!
