Day 23

U951 after yesterday's marathon there was some doubt whether today's suffer fest was going to be possible. To top it off we had company where we were camped last night. You might remember we were illegally camped at a boat launch ramp. Well at 3am a couple of cars drive into the parking lot. They rattled around for about 30 minutes and then just left. We didn't get a lotta sleep last night. The second portage today around the largest dam on the upper Mississippi sucked the big kahuna. It took us a little over an hour per boat. We did succeed however and are comfortably ensconced in the Campsite that is on the schedule for crying outloud. This development is so bizarre that it may unprecedented. I talked to Pat earlier and she's set to come pick us up as planned. Is this what retirement's like? On a more serious note, Jenny should be given massive credit for her willingness to undertake this expedition. She doesn't look it but she's one tough girl.

  2. Jenny and Dave almost at St. Cloud,
Pick both of them up Sunday B-4 Dave's second round. 451 miles Jenny and Dave have done together, nothing stopped them, not even the weather all that way in kayaks with David in her wake. Now time to relax at Pat's house,do laundry and relax and contemplate of this past journey down the Missisip. Now the lonely part of this trip starts for Dave 2100 more miles to the Gulf. What a trip-what an adventure, meeting lots of people on this venture!Good Luck Dave-will watch via e mail all the way. Don't be lonely, you have the big Muddy in your wake calling you to make a journey of a lifetime and dine on the Mississippi River, how sublime. Thinking of you and following you all the way, wishing you well, fair weather and lots of speed! Pat
