U1109 We got to looking at the map & Jenny has been reading a couple of river trip books she got in Grand Rapids and we decided we had to stay one night at the C.O.E. campground on big sandy lake. It required an upstream paddle up big sandy river (1 mile) and a portage around the dam, but it was worth it. We have a good campsite on the lake, showers, laundry, electricity, and no mosquitoes. Let me tell you, these army guys really know how to camp!
There is one small drawback, however, we're going to have to make up the mileage tomorrow and it will start with a portage. It's always something. The mud the last couple of days has been somewhat unpleasant. (Understatement) we have begun occasionally to see a rock on the shore. We are hoping the riverbank will become rocky instead of muddy. More tomorrow if we have cell coverage.
